About

IORT (Intraoperative radiation therapy) was first developed over a century ago, and is now an integral part of cancer treatment.

The idea of founding an International Society for Intraoperative Radiation Therapy (ISIORT) was decided at a meeting in San Francisco in 1996, and the first ISIORT International Conference was organized in Pamplona, Spain, in 1998.
Since then, ISIORT activities have never been discontinued (except during the COVID-19 pandemia in 2020), with a biennial high-level scientific conference attended by many countries around the world.

On May 2, 2024, ISIORT has been incorporated as a not-for-profit association (ASBL/VZW) which will soon become an international not-for-profit association (AISBL/IVZW) allowing this exceptional society to sustain its development for generations to come.

The development of these techniques couldn’t have been better documented than by Don Goer in his excellent presentation given at the international conference in Columbus, Ohio, in October 2022.
